C. Diff Vaccine Study
You’re invited to join a
research study for a C. diff vaccine!
Thank you for your interest in Beethoven. This research study, sponsored by Pfizer, will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an investigational vaccine against Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) for adults ages 65 and over. An investigational vaccine is one that has not yet been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use by the general public.

C. Diff is a bacteria that can spread from one person to another causing severe diarrhea, fever, nausea, and blood in the stool. Serious infections can be life threatening. People 65 and older who recently took antibiotics or are being treated at a hospital or clinic have a higher chance of getting sick from C. diff. Currently, there is no approved vaccine to prevent illness caused by C. diff.
- 48% of all documented C. diff infections affect people over the age of 65
- C. diff accounts for over 200,000 hospitalizations yearly
- C. diff accounts for over 11,000 deaths yearly
Who can join?
You may be eligible to take part in this study if you:
- Are 65 or older
- Have never had a C. diff infection
- Willing to attend 5 in-person visits
What is involved?
If you choose to participate, you will be:
- This is a blinded study, so you and the study team will not know if you received the vaccine or placebo
- Compensated for your time:
- $50 per phone visit
- $150 per on-site visit
