The Upstate Global Health Institute is comparing how vancomycin (V) plus piperacillin/tazobactam (PT) and vancomycin (V) plus meropenem (M), affect kidney health.
All participants will receive standard open-label V dosing; open-label means everyone knows what drug and dose you are taking. Participants will also be randomly assigned to receive blinded PT or M using standard dosing; blinded means only certain people know which study drug you are taking. Neither you nor your doctor will know for sure if you are taking PT or M. Joining the study will not clinically significantly delay antibiotic treatment.
